Wayne Robinson knows his body is rapidly wasting away with bone cancer.
Yet he wont let this deadly disease hold him back from his mission.
A small flat-bottom boat slowly makes its way across the Rio Grande
River. Its overflowing with giftsfruit, toys, a generator.
Standing in the boat in a George Washington like pose is a white haired
60 year old named Wayne Robinson. Hes leading this mission of mercy to
impoverished children in a border town city in Mexico.
After a 600 mile all night drive from Dallas, Wayne and his companions
finally get to bless these kids with treasures. His body is ravaged
with bone cancer. Yet he remains focused on giving himself away for
needy children.
Wayne reminds me of Jesus, who crossed the border between heaven and
earth to teach and serve the spiritually needy. He even died on a
bloody cross to serve them. He came on a long journey of hope for
helpless sinners like us.
As the apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians, For you know the grace of
our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he
became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
Do you have hope in Christ? The only true and lasting hope we can have
is through trusting in the one who crossed the border for us. When we
receive his gift of love, we cross the border from death unto life.
We then become partners with Jesus on this journey of hope by bringing
others to him! He, in turn, has promised to cross the border one last
time: not to take care of our sin, but to take us back across the
border permanently to share his home.
