His parents were on a nightmare roller coaster.

Waiting for the Prodigal to Come Home

After five long years, finally, in June of 1980, the prodigal son of Willis Owens finally came home. Steve Owens, in his junior high days, had begun a plunge into the dangerous world of drugs. For five long years, he lived a reckless lifestyle. His parents were on a nightmare roller coaster. There was marijuana, alcohol, hard drugs, then he began to deal drugs.

Finally, Steve came to the end of himself. He started turning his life around because he started turning it over to the Lord Jesus Christ. Today he is a computer scientist. He looks back on this terrible time and thinks of his father.

Steve’s father has some suggestions that may help you today if your child is still out in a far land. He says this:

“Remember you can’t force someone to change. You can let them know you love them and continue to be there and never ever give up hope. You believe that God is powerful. You keep on looking to Jesus for strength.”

Here’s my prayer for you: “May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love, and into Christ’s perseverance.”
