Since the appearance of Bill Moyer’s ten week PBS series on the book Genesis, it seems that more and more people are talking about this book. When was the last time you read the book of Genesis?

    Now Genesis contains the story of the beginning of our universe, our world, and the beginning of human beings. It gives credit to the one God who made us. Genesis contains the story of the formation of families. And it is painfully honest about the ways in which our families work and the ways in which they don't. At the beginning, in the book of Genesis, is the first time we learn about our problems: our problems of pride, our problems of lust, our problems of selfishness, and especially our problem of being alienated from God.

    But it’s also true that in the book of Genesis, there is reason to hope because it also begins to tell us of God’s plan to save us through the coming of his dear Son. Today, take the time to read Genesis again. If you feel a little bit lost, go back to the beginning and realize that the God who made you is the God who can make you happy.
