These past few weeks our office staff has been hit by a barrage of illnesses. It seems as if everyday one of us is headed to the doctor. In the last few days, even I have been battling an illness that is extremely frustrating.

    I thank God for caring doctors and for medication. I know what illness is. I know you’re grateful for good doctors and good medication, too. But do we put too much trust in American medical treatment? Writer Joel Betz says that we health care buyers treat our doctors almost like gods. We tend to overuse their services and expect them to work miracles.

    But let’s be honest, don’t we tend to overlook the One who is the real healer—the one who gave us our bodies?

    I don’t want to discount in any way physical pain you may be having today. I do want to call us back to the One who can heal the sickness of our souls. Before Jesus healed anyone, he first understood they needed to be reconciled to God. He healed out of compassion, yes! But he healed our souls. Let’s be certain that we are healthy there!
