Through the power of Jesus Christ, you can face your fears.

Overcoming our Fear

She’s an Olympian. Her name is Mary Ellen Clark. She’s wrestled with a fear that is a high diver’s nightmare.

Mary climbed the stairs to the top of the ten meter platform. She reflected on the ghosts of her past year. For the past eight months she had been tormented by vertigo, a terrifying condition that causes dizziness when you are at that kind of height. It nearly ended her diving career. As she stood at the top of that thirty foot tower, she knew she had to go for it.

She pulled off a beautiful dive and she won the Olympic trials competition in the United States. Because she had the courage to conquer her fears, Mary Ellen is enjoying the thrill of reliving the Olympic competition from last summer's games.

How do we deal with fear when we want to have faith? What’s something you're afraid of? Dying, being laid off from your job, losing a loved one, being neglected? Through the power of Jesus Christ, you can face your fears. 1 John in the Bible says that “There is no fear in love, for perfect love casts out all fear.”

Today, let’s let God’s mighty love give us the courage to face our fear.
