There are many creative ways to tell people that God loves them. One of the most unusual ways of telling the story of Jesus may be found in the most unusual of locationsright under your nose as you are sipping your morning coffee and reading your morning newspaper.
His name is Johnny Hart and he is the creator of two of the most popular American cartoon series, The Wizard of Id and B.C. Six times he has won the best humor strip of the year. But Johnny does more than make us laugh. He understands the truth to the saying humor is a funny way to make a serious point. For several years Johnny has been using some of his strips to prod us into thinking about the story of Jesus. Now some newspaper editors are not happy about that. Some have canceled his cartoons on religious themes. But Johnny is committed to telling the story of faith.
Let me encourage you to watch your funnies for messages of faith in B.C. thanks to Johnny Hart, a bright ray of Christian hope in a normally dark secular scene. We can all use a daily dose of a cool morning breeze that comes from a man of humor and a man of faith. Remember the Proverb: The cheerful heart is a continual feast. Im thankful for the continual feast that Johnny Hart, a man of faith, keeps bringing us, despite criticism.
