Thoughts on Today's Verse...

The requirements of morality and holiness are not temporary or fleeting because they reflect the very nature of our Holy God, who is eternal. So these words don't shift in meaning with the wishes of culture or the trends proposed by the so-called enlightened. God's truth is true across cultures, times, and wishes. It's true across perspectives, ethnicities, and races. We do not adapt God's will to our times, but we redeem our times by adapting our wills to God's truth and living it among our contemporaries. Yes! We can say to God with the psalmist:
All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.
Then, we can show them in our lives.

My Prayer...

Righteous God Almighty, may my life reflect your righteous character, gracious compassion, and faithful love and justice, the very words you use to describe yourself.* You, your nature, and your values are forever and eternal. I want to invest my life in what endures forever. Father, please give me wisdom to see through the fleeting temptations of compromise, of modification of your will to be "current," things that lead us to give up truth in our day. We don't want to be swallowed by cultural fads and the moral degradation we see around us. We want to do what honors you because, "All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal." So, we commit to live them. In Jesus' name. Amen.

* Exodus 34:6-7; Psalm 33:5, 116:5.
