To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them — not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
What a wonderful blessing for God's people when their congregation is led by godly leaders who are loving shepherds. As much as we love these kinds of shepherds and follow them with respect as we honor their examples (Hebrews 13:7-8, 17, 24), we know that they will receive even greater appreciation from Jesus, the Chief Shepherd when he appears to take us home in glory!
My Prayer...
O glorious God, please bless every faithful and concerned leader in your Church with a clear sense of your blessing and appreciation. Please use me to show this love to your faithful servants as well. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
