Godforsaken? Never!
by Dennis Crawford
|
Godforsaken. A most hopeless word.
To say it is to say here is a place God isn't.
A person God chooses not to be with.
God has excused himself. Taken a powder. Cut out.
To say it is to say the situation is too sad,
too sinful,
too hopeless,
too much for God.
Too much. Godforsaken may be too much of a word
for mortals to throw around.
The Psalmist said, Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens,
you are there.
If I make my bed in the depths,
you are there.
The world was in a mess when God became man and
lowered
himself
to
earth.
Lowered
himself
to
be
with
the
whores,
chicken-thief-tax collectors,
idolaters,
winos,
murderers.
Lowered himself to be with the Godforsaken.
Jesuson the crossgot so low that once he asked,
"My God, why have you forsaken me."
Jesusoncewas Godforsaken.
So that if we chose,
neither I, nor anyone else,
will ever have to be without God again.
Ever.
