A song entitled, He is Not Silent by Out of the Grey got me to thinking about that statement. Are we so busy that we dont listen. Are we listening for thunder when we should be listening for a whisper?
Then Moses and the priests, who are Levites, said to all Israel, Be silent, O Israel, and listen! You have now become the people of the LORD your God. Obey the LORD your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today. (Deuteronomy 27)
Hmmm . . . when I really listen to God, one thing I hear God say is to obey.
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him! (Luke 14:4 & 20:26)
On this occasion, people became silent and listened to the Lord. What Jesus said just floored them.
We need to listen to what the Bible says for it is not merely a Book with good advice it is a book that records the words of the Living God!
How then we ought to listen! But how?
Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him. (Luke 8) And in the next chapter: Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. But they did not understand what this meant. (Luke 9)
It seems to me we should listen carefully and seek more wisdom in Christ. We cannot go wrong in doing this listen more to Him. Let me encourage you to not only listen to your boss, family, husband... but especially to the Lord. Get into the Bible and get it into you. Move beyond good intentions and just pick it up and read it, seeking to find it in it the voice of God then listen!
Lord, let me not become to entangled in the world that I forget to listen to you. Let my prayer life not be filled with requests of you, but time to reflect and listen to you, too. Thank you for your great sacrifice. In your name I pray. Amen.
