The following excerpt is adapted from the writing "TITANIC" by Dr. David Sylvester:
"The blockbuster film TITANIC has taken the world by storm to become the top grossing film of all time. Young lovers Jack and Rose steal the thunder from the vessel itself and lead the viewer down the path of young love - at least the kind that the world thinks of.
The uncultured Jack steals the heart of the sophisticated Miss Rose and stays with her until the very end - his demise in the icy waters and her survival on floating debris to become one of some 600 of so survivors. Toward the end of the film, as Rose is portrayed as an elderly lady recounting the incident, the viewers are struck with her memories not of the ship but of Jack himself. With fondness and affection still lingering, she says of Jack, "He saved me in every way!"
Oh, really? In every way? I think not. Jack lured her away from her fiancé and mate and into a tawdy affair with him. The rescue from one with whom she had no desire to wed may have been a saving of a sort, yet in the most important way - he could not save her."
Jesus Christ is the one and only way for us to gain full salvation, pure and free. Jesus tells us this himself when He says "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6 NIV). The apostle Peter reiterated this point when he preached, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12 NIV).
Through our Savior Jesus Christ we can be confident that we will never be aboard a sinking ship. Jesus is our eternal life preserver.
