Clarence McCartney tells a story regarding the noted English novelist Charles Dickens, who wrote such timeless classics as David Copperfield, Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, and A Christmas Carol. It seems Dickens was visiting the city of York on one occasion when a lady unknown to Dickens stopped him on the street. The lady pleaded with him, "Mr. Dickens, will you let me touch the hand that has filled my house with many friends?"
One often never knows of the influence they have on another's life. The Hebrew writer reminds us in Hebrews 12:1 "Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and sin which so easily engangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."
It is a reminder that we are being watched, thus we need to provide a positive example of how the Christian life is to be lived each and every day. May one day someone come up to us and thank us for bringing many friends into their lives.
