When we think about the Christmas story, we think of the destiny of Jesus Christ. He was born in a humble manger, but his destiny was to die on the cross for our sins. Even some of the Christmas Carols mention that He is Lord at his birth and that myrrh was given to Him symbolizing His death.
Should we have a sense of destiny in our lives? Yes! Paul declared, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10 NKJV)God has plans for our lives. David said it like this:
"For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise You,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance,
being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.
For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance,
being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them." (Psalm 139:13-16)
Fulfilling God's purposes for our lives is one of the most gratifying things I can imagine. As we think of the destiny of the Christ Child and the beginning of a new year for each of us, let's ponder on what God's destiny may be for our lives.
