I came across a story about eight children whose mother was diagnosed with cancer — the father had died earlier. After her death, one of the boys said, "We were surrounded by darkness and midnight; we literally had no one to help us. We felt so alone." They had no food, they had nothing.
About that time, they heard a knock on the door. Some church folks, including some elders from the church, came to offer help. A Christian dentist fixed their teeth. A Christian grocer took them some food. A Christian lawyer helped them with legal problems. And the whole church loved them. They taught those kids the true meaning of Christianity.
Big government is really not set up for that kind of caring for children on a personal level; but thank God, His family is! Now let's get out there and be the family of God!
[Jesus said] "Then these righteous ones will reply, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?' And the King will tell them, 'I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!'" (Matthew 25:37-40 NLT)
