[Jesus said] "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV).
Lord, there are some weary people reading these words. Let them hear Your invitation to come to You with their burdens and their weary souls.
Let the wives who are weary of waiting for their husbands to spiritually lead their families come to You. They are weary of carrying a burden they were never intended to carry.
Let the weary single moms and the weary single dads who are weary being both mom and dad to their children. They do the best they can but never feel they have done enough, nor do they feel they have done what they do well enough.
Let the weary mothers come to You. They are weary from caring for their children, wiping noses and bottoms, taking temperatures, drying tears, and kissing away booboos.
Let the weary husbands come to You. They are weary from trying to provide for, protect, and preserve their family and their marriages. They are weary from the criticism they receive, for not being good enough, strong enough, or wealthy enough. They are weary from working long hours and short nights, and wondering if things will ever get better.
Let Your weary followers come to You. Those who are weary of the search for peace, weary of the struggle for contentment, and weary of the battle to be holy and pure. Those who are weary of coming up short. Not matter how hard they try they just can't seem to get it all right. Those who are weary of being told they are not good enough, right enough, or spiritual enough to please God. Those who weary of going to church to connect with You only to leave feeling they have been beaten up and beaten down. Those who are weary of feeling like a failure and wonder if You could possibly love them.
Lord, thank you for Your invitation to the weary, the burdened, and the heavy-laden. Thank You for your offer to give us rest. Thank you for inviting us to come to You. May all who are weary and burdened come to You and find rest for their souls.
