A bright cloud enveloped them [Peter, James, John, and Jesus,] and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"
Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus on the "Mount of Transfiguration" before Jesus' closest disciples. This was an incredible honor for them as faithful Jews — to see the glory of God and Moses, the great leader of Israel, and Elijah, the great prophet of God. However, God wanted Jesus' followers to know that as important as Moses and Elijah were, only Jesus is God's Son, Immanuel, God with us (Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-18; Hebrews 1:1-3). God wants us, the modern-day disciples of Jesus, to know that the Son's words are our ultimate truth and are spoken with God's authority. We must begin by listening to and obeying God's Son and our Lord, Jesus Christ if we want to be refreshed, renewed, restored, and transformed!
My Prayer...
Righteous Father, please fuel my holy hunger for the words of Jesus. Please help me as I seek to not only understand them but also obey them. I want my life's work to passionately honor you, just as it was Jesus' passion. Please give me wisdom today as I seek to:
Make decisions and face difficult circumstances with integrity, grace, and obedience.
Live in ways that honor Jesus' righteous character, gracious compassion, and faithful lovingkindness.
In the name of the Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.
