Day 91:
Another 90 Days !!!
April 29, 1998 Wednesday Evening or Thursday Morning
Dear Family,
This is a real international message, I'm using a laptop computer donated
for the PIP project in Burma, sitting at a table in Khonkaen, Thailand, and
writing about the Laos situation that has captured the attention of most of
the world. Here is today's good and bad news:
- The American Embassy reports that our lawyer has done all the paper work
for the appeal. Appeals to the People's Court can take up to three months
before the defendants appear before the court again. That would be July and
180 days in jail. Tommy asked him what else we can do, and the answer was
that we had the best lawyer available so let him handle it. Tommy will try
to meet with the lawyer and discuss any possible ways to expedite the case.
- Dr. Bounlay of the Vientiane Municipality Department of Health was not
available today to assist Tommy with securing the PIP vehicles from the
police station. Please call back tomorrow at noon. Visas? Of course, Dr.
Thongvansy is working on those and they will be ready next week.
- Phonsawan was full of news this evening. She had a long visit at the
jail today, spending lots of time with Bounlerth and Duangmanee because
other families did not use their time. Khun Sy is back to normal, Kaet had
been sick but is better. Duangmanee was getting fatter and Bounlerth is
gaining his weight back. They prayed together in the visitation room, the
guard didn't care. The Laos Ten had the Lord's Supper secretly in their
separate cells last Sunday. Phonsawan sounded tired but in good spirits.
The Foxes are in Khonkaen for a few days separating personal things and
project material we shipped from Laos three months ago. Kim & Rebecca
Vovaritskul are continuing to assist the homeless Foxes as we prepare for
life after Laos. We will plan to be back in Udorn Saturday. We said
goodbye to Thomas & Kindy Kweekul today. They are headed back to the States.
Unfortunately the Laotian government would not consider allowing them to
enter Laos and continue their work with the PIP project.
We have some wonderful plans for this weekend. If the Lord blesses those
plans, we should have great news to share with you Monday. Please continue
to pray for the Allisons as they fight the red tape monster. The Laos Ten
are in good spirits but ours have taken a low dip as we dread them facing
another three months of jail before their appeal is heard. Please keep them
close to your hearts this week. Some of you were wondering about updating
the Laos 10 web site. Paul Lee reports the web site is back on schedule
after his wife returned home last Saturday with their brand new son Joshua
Wayland Lee.
God bless,
Ken & Jean
