Pleasing Several years ago a young
minister was called to be the pastor of a rather large church. He was asked how
he thought that he, a young man with little experience, would be able to please
so many men and women. He replied, "I am not going there to please one
thousand people, but to please One."
Many of us at times are guilty of living our lives to look good
for others, to fit someone's mold, or to be pleasing to those individuals we
see as important to impress. Our God is more concerned with our hearts than the
way we appear before others. Throughout time God has used ordinary people, such
as Abraham, Moses, and David, to accomplish extraordinary feats. 1 Samuel 16:7
says it best when referring to God's chosen King David:
"But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not consider his appearance or his
height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks
at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the
heart".(1 Samuel 16:6-7)
Today, let us seek to please our Savior, the One who matters
most.
