After World War I, princes and princesses cropped up all over Europe, claiming royal lineage. Each one clamored to be recognized as the rightful heir to some throne, but many were disappointed. The thrones they wanted were already occupied.
Jesus had a claim to a throne, the throne of David. But he did not just claim it, he took the throne and established a kingdom that would last forever. Isaiah prophesied "of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever" (Isaiah 9:7).
Our king is Jesus who reigns and rules over a kingdom that will continue to increase. As we approach the weekend, let's recognize royalty by joining other loyal subjects in worship and adoration of our King of Kings and Lord of Lords--Jesus!
