The Sequoia trees of California tower as much as 300 feet above the ground. Strangely, these giants have unusually shallow root systems that reach out in all directions to capture the greatest amount of surface moisture. Seldom will you see a redwood standing alone, because high winds would quickly uproot it. That's why they grow in clusters. Their intertwining roots provide support for one another against the storms.
As Christians, it can be difficult for us to stand alone against the sin and troubles that the world throws at us. The apostle Paul speaks to this point in saying "For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up" (1 Thessalonians 5:9-11a).
This weekend, take the opportunity to offer support to a brother or sister in Christ who needs shelter from the storms of life.
