[Moses and the people sang,] "With your unfailing love you lead the people you have redeemed. In your might, you guide them to your sacred home."

— Exodus 15:13 NLT

Key Thought

The center of all our relationships has to be God — His teachings, His example, and His faithfulness. As Moses led the people of Israel through the wilderness, he led them in this song of faith, part of which is in today's verse. Nothing in their current situation assured them that what they sang would be true. However, what they did have was God's faithfulness to them in the past. They knew God had done great deeds to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt through the plagues, through the Red Sea, and by providing for them in the desert. Their past was God's story with them, His faithfulness to them. So, they could anticipate God keeping His promises to them in the future because of His faithfulness in their past.

We can rest secure in our future with God. We can share the words of this old song from Exodus 15 and make it our own. We can recount the story of Israel and see how God led with "unfailing love" the people He had "redeemed." We believe the story of Jesus and His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection and what that means for us. [1] So, we also believe that we can join this ancient chorus and make its truth ours:

In your might, you guide [us] to your sacred home.

Having been born into God's family through faith by the power of the Holy Spirit, [2] our future with Jesus is secure. [3] Our identity is in and with Christ. Because we have shared with Jesus in His death, burial, resurrection, [4] God has given us new birth into His family. [5] Our lives are joined to Christ, which means we will share in His future glory. [6] This new reality must change the way we approach each of our relationships. We are here to be a blessing to others and a redemptive influence in the lives of those who do not know Jesus. [7] This means that we will recalibrate all of our relationships so that each life we touch will recognize that we have been with Jesus. [8]

Today's Prayer

Almighty God, as I read Moses' song, please know that my heart joins with the multitudes who have praised Your unfailing love and Your faithfulness to Your promises in the past. I feel confident about my future with You because of Your unfailing faithfulness to Your promises. I look forward to the day that You bring me into "Your sacred home" and my eternal future with You. I commit to using this security I feel in Jesus to use my life to bless others and influence them to know Jesus. In His name, I pray this prayer of thanks and commitment. Amen.
