How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!
I grew up singing praise songs in four-part acapella harmony. Still, to this day, the Spirit stirs my spirit profoundly when hundreds of people sing in harmony, praising God. There is something about the melding of our voices to make one glorious sound in harmonious praise!
Our Father also hears a beautiful and glorious "sound" when we live in harmony as His children. The psalmist reminds us that such glorious "sound" is "wonderful and pleasant"!
Over the last several days, we have focused on our relationships with our Father in Heaven and His children on earth. Christian unity, harmony, and love must be far more than our church talk. Jesus had our harmony as brothers and sisters in His heart as He focused His prayers on our unity. Our unity and love were so important that He prayed for our unity even as He faced abandonment, denial, betrayal, humiliation, and death through His trials, beatings, and crucifixion. I hope you will join me today in reading His prayer in John 17:1-26. Let's have the words of our Savior and Lord echo in our hearts and transform our lives as we seek to bring God our glorious "sound" in song and in sharing our lives as His precious children. Our fractured world needs a gentle dose of "wonderful and pleasant...harmony!
O, precious Father, may our glorious "sound" delight you. O, Jesus, our loving Savior, may our unity fill Your heart with joy, knowing that Your sacrifice has brought together a new and loving humanity that finds life in Your name. O, Holy Spirit, may the love You have poured into us display its holy presence in our lives as we live together in ways that bring You joy. Amen.
