Together in Christ: 'Valuing Those Who Invest in Us!' — Proverbs 16:20-21

Friday, July 26, 2024

Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the Lord will be joyful. The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive.
— Proverbs 16:20-21 NLT

Key Thought

All too often, our insecurities and defensiveness can lead us to avoid people in our lives who are older, more experienced, and deeply spiritual. We can feel intimidated or "less than" when these spiritual people, friends, and mentors are near us. Worse, we can accept their time and attention but not apply what they say, teach, and live before us.

If we fully trust that the Lord is at work in our lives to guide us to the people we need to bless us and whom we need to bless, [1] we must value those who are willing to invest in us. [2] Their example of faith and their words of instruction can help us to be discerning, wise, and spiritually mature. If we are open to the instruction, guidance, and mentoring of others, the Lord will then lead us to people we can bless with our time and wisdom! [3]

Today's Prayer

Father, thank You for the wise mentors and spiritually mature friends who have invested their interest, time, and wisdom in me. Forgive me for not being more appreciative and open to their guidance. Awaken me to the blessing of those investing in me to help me become more like Jesus. Open my heart to appropriately express my appreciation and guide me to those to whom I can be a similar blessing. In Jesus' name, I pray this. Amen.
