I made an appointment with a friend, and then cautioned, "Okay, I think we need to do it, but please remind me the day before so I don't forget!"
As I grow older, I need reminders of things I am supposed to do, committed to doing, or have on my schedule. The truth is, I've always needed reminders and had ways of leaving reminders and memory cues for myself. The busier we are and the more important our task, the more important that we not forget — to realize that we need reminders.
In His amazing love for us, God gave us reminders to help us remember His incredible gifts of mercy, grace, and salvation in Jesus. We celebrate and participate in Jesus' saving work through the Lord's Table [1] and baptism. [2] We get to remember and participate in Jesus' saving death, burial, and resurrection through these blessings. [3] Plus, Jesus poured the Holy Spirit into us when we were saved. [4] Jesus placed the ultimate reminder within us by giving us the Holy Spirit, our Advocate and intercessor. [5] The One we are to remember, Jesus, is alive within us through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit assures us of our relationship with God as Father, [6] Jesus as Savior, [7] and each other as family. [8] Few realities in our spiritual lives are as pivotal and reassuring! We are born, live, made holy, and connected by the Holy Spirit, Who is our anointing from God to help us remember Jesus! [9]
Father, we celebrate our relationships with You as Father and with the Son through the Holy Spirit, Who has made us Your children and brothers and sisters with each other. Please accept Paul's beautiful benediction as our prayer of blessing for each other:
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with [us] all. [A] Amen.
