The Humids are not about environmental humidity. It is the battle zone of the Spirit. More than a spiritually dry time, The Humids are a place of intense spiritual warfare where we feel surrounded by the Enemy as he seeks to suck the spiritual life out of our soul. The heat of battle is all around. The suffocating presence of evil is palpable and hangs like a thick coating in the air. Temptation is sometimes blatantly present. Other times it is more subtle and hidden. Yet it is always there. Satan overtly uses his deceptive power to cloud our decision-making abilities and to dim our vision of Gods mission in our life. Life feels heavy and hard. Every passion for God and good is met with a heavy resistance. Our spiritual responses feel sluggish and forced.
The Humids can only be faced with the urgency of battle. Paul cried out for us be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes. (Ephesians 6:10-11) Paul knew about The Humids.
Satan and his allies have rushed in... |
During The Humids, we need the encouragement of spiritual friends who will pray for us to be filled with Gods Spirit (Ephesians 3:14-19) so we can be empowered to face the enemy victoriously (Ephesians 6:18-20). But we also must galvanize our spirit for battle, resisting the Enemy and intentionally submitting ourselves to God and his will (James 4:7), taking up the battle armor God has provided us truth, righteousness, the Gospel, faith, and salvation (Ephesians 6:13-18). We must be full of the Lords power through the Holy Spirit, released through worship in song, worship in praise, and worship in life (Ephesians 5:15-21). The Spirit longs to help us win our battle, using the same power that defeated Satan at the empty tomb and raised Jesus from the death (Ephesians 1:18-21). This power is available to us, and will enable us to do greater things than we can even imagine (Ephesians 3:20-21).
If we will recognize the seriousness of our battle and prepare ourselves for spiritual warfare, our time in The Humids will pass. We can even emerge from The Humids empowered in the Spirit evenly more strongly than before (cf. Luke 4:14). Yes, we will face the Evil One again at his opportune time. But if we will recognize that our victory has already been secured by our Lord (Colossians 2:13-15), we can emerge victoriously from the fight, confident that the one in us is greater than the one in the world (1 John 4:4).
If you find yourself in The Humids, dont despair. The battle can be brutal, but the victory will be won. Dont give in or give up. This time will pass and you will emerge stronger in your faith and deeper in relationship with the Savior if you will remember Pauls war cry: Stand your ground!
