What a phenom! Tiger Woods has burst on the scene of professional golf
like no one else in history. But as great as his accomplishments have
been, people have known for a long time he would be great. Tiger has
found what he was made to do! His long drives, his deft approach shots,
and his confident putting have put him on a level far above all but the
most accomplished players in the game. But for Tiger, this is just a
childhood dream unfolding as he and his father had envisioned.
Tiger Woods was made to be a great golfer. While discipline, practice,
and experience have released these great gifts, God put them there.
This is what he was wired to do when the Creator put him together. His
temperament, his athleticism, his physique, his hand eye coordination,
are perfectly fitted for his passion.
Wouldnt it be great if we were that good at something!? Why cant we
be?
You see, God has made us special too. He has put his signature on us. He
has given us certain abilities from the time he formed us in our
mothers womb (Psalm 139:13-16). He has walked with us through all the
events of our lives shaping our character (Romans 8:28-29). He has even
given us his special gifts to use to honor him and bless others. He did
this when we became Christians (1 Peter 4:10-11). In each of us is a
tiger made by God waiting to be released into his service.
But how do I release that tiger? How do I find what God has made me to
do? Let me give you three simple things to do so you can begin to
awaken the tiger God placed in you.
- Pray!
- Ask God to use you for his glory. Ask him to open your eyes to his
opportunities each day.
- Act!
- Follow the Nike slogan. When God places an opportunity in your path to
serve, then serve. When he gives you an opportunity or challenge in
your daily life, do it! Dont assume these things happen by accident
when you say you believe that God is at work in your life.
- Commit!
- The greatest way to know Gods will for your life, to find that tiger
he has placed inside of you, is to surrender yourself, you body, your
time, your life to his service.
Eldrick Woods didnt become Tiger because he was given a nickname. He
became Tiger because he gave himself to his gifts. God asks us to do
that, and one final thing: to give ourselves to the Giver of these
gifts.
