[Jesus continued his prayer:] "My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory."
— John 17:9-10 NLT

Key Thought

Think of all the things the disciples of Jesus did wrong. Recall all the things they misunderstood. Remember the many times they blew the opportunity to do the right thing or say the right word. During Jesus' ministry, his disciples often came up lacking. Yet Jesus did not give up on them. He still loved them. He even continued to believe in them. Well, what did they do with that trust, that unflagging confidence that they would be his glory? Through the work of the Spirit, they changed the world, helped create an enduring movement, and brought Jesus' message and Jesus' salvation to untold millions over the centuries because of their ongoing legacy of faith, courage, and obedience. They are his glory. And as we live for the Lord, so are we!

Today's Prayer

Father, please forgive my lack of confidence in what Jesus can do with me and through me. I know Jesus' plans for me are greater than anything I could imagine. Help me not to get too down because of my failures but to trust that Jesus will maximize my efforts to bring him glory. I ask this in the name of the one I want to honor, Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
