[Jesus continued talking to his disciples:] "But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but they didn't see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn't hear it."
— Matthew 13:16-17 NLT
Key Thought
Even today, much of what the Bible says and means remains mysterious and unreachable to those who are not seeking after God's will. The Spirit's work to illuminate Scripture comes only to those who have faith in Jesus! Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus still is helping the earnest follower, the dedicated disciple, to know his will. As he explained the parables to his disciples, we too get to sit in on his explanations and, because he has ascended into heaven and poured out his Spirit on those who have been born again in him (Titus 3:3-7), we have the Spirit's help in understanding and living his truth.
Today's Prayer
Father, thank you for sending Jesus to live the truth, speak the truth, and reveal the truth so that I might know your will and your love more clearly. Open my eyes and heart and reveal to me your truth as I seek after Jesus and search your Scriptures. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
