    You may know that Peter Gomes is traveling around the nation selling his book entitled The Good Book: Reading the Bible with Mind and Heart. Peter has found and amazing audience as he has traveled the country. He says, “What I see in growing numbers are people on a pilgrimage of spirituality.”

    Peter Gomes says we are having a deeper sense of unease in our lives and the material goods are leaving us less and less satisfied. When I read this article, I was surprised to read it in U.S. News and World Report.

    The article was written by David Gergen. He ends his article by saying that this is really what is happening in America. Then he adds these words: “We shouldn’t forget that in 1630, John Winthrop aboard a ship gave a speech and here is what he urged the pilgrims of his time to do. ‘Follow the counsel of Micah to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.’ A great burst to begin a spiritual awakening. A great burst for a pilgrimage toward God.”
