Americans honor winners, but sadly I read about a fifth grade football team who lost the Florida state championship in a very close contest. And at a banquet following that season, each little player was given a plaque. Part of the inscription read (and I quote),
There is no room for second. The second-place bowl game is the place for losers, played by losers. It has always been an American ideal to be first at everything we do, and to win and to win and to win!
We must not educate our children to believe that they can always be King of the Mountain in everything they do.
I'm so thankful that we have a savior who helps us to understand that we are all equal winners in his Kingdom, and that every one of us is saved by His grace!
