In the last 25 years, every state has adopted a no-fault divorce law, making divorces easier, quicker and less fraught with any moralistic blame.
But when there is no blame, the moral issues of deserting are discarded. A husband or wife can just say, Im out of here! and the spouse and children are left without support. Even court ordered support can be frustrated by moving across state lines.
This is such a problem, that some states have decided to reverse the no-fault divorce law. So hats off to Michigan for addressing this sad situation and at least strengthening the bargaining power of a virtuous spouse!
A casual attitude toward dissolving marriages is not good news for America. I Timothy says that a person who doesnt take care of his family is worse than an unbeliever! So God bless those courageous legislators in Michigan who agree.
