Did you know that only 30% of the characteristics needed for long life are genetically based? The New York Times reported a study showing that 70% of those characteristics of long life are matters of personal choice. And by age 80, almost none of these genetic characteristics are left! Dr. Roe reported, "Our basic message is that people are largely responsible for their own old age."
So, what can we do to live better? Three important things:
- Be with people. This lowers the blood levels of stress-induced hormones that can promote disease.
- Be optimistic and hopeful enough to bounce back from tragedy.
- Serve others. Help people and get out of yourself.
Interesting, isn't it? These healthy principles have been in the Good Book for years; God has always wanted to bless our lives.
